The relationship between the Fergusson Foundation and the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research (MMFC) is absolutely essential to the mandate of the MMFC which is to foster collaboration between university researchers, policy makers, service providers and community groups interested in family violence in order to conduct action-oriented research projects. The relationship is essential because the ability of the MMFC to carry out this mandate and foster collaboration depends on effective collaboration with the Fergusson Foundation – thus the means and the ends of our respective organizations are aligned. In my limited experience as Director of the MMFC, I have witnessed and been inspired by the commitment of MMFC staff, executive committee, research teams and board of directors to work together with the staff and board of directors of the Fergusson Foundation in progressing toward our common goal of eliminating family violence.
Dr. Catherine Holtmann, Director of the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research and Associate Professor, Sociology Department, UNB
On behalf of the Fredericton Police Force and the New Brunswick Association of Chiefs of Police I would like to acknowledge the tremendous value that our ongoing partnership with Muriel McQueen Fergusson Foundation and Research Center has provided over the past nine years. Representatives from MMF have been an active voice with NBACP and have been instrumental in developing and providing training to help police better intervene in cases of domestic and intimate partner violence. Specifically, the Fredericton and Saint John municipal Police Forces and provincial RCMP have all benefited from current research and training provided by the center. Through this partnership we have discovered better practices that help us serve and protect those suffering at the hands of domestic violence. We look forward to growing together and capitalizing further on what the MMF foundation and research center has to offer in the future.
